You have often noticed that some people look physically fit without exercise, while others find it hard to gain muscle or lose fat, even after dieting and performing rigorous workouts.

The secret lies in the genetics, which defines the basic body structure and fat and muscle composition. If two people of totally different genetics follow the same diet plan and exercise, their bodies will show different results.

It is important to know your body type, so that you can curate your diet plan and workout accordingly to get maximum results. Different workouts show different results depending on the body type. That's why it is easier for some people to get a good physique than others.

Broadly, human bodies can be classified into the following three types.

1. Ectomorph

Ectomorphs are slim and lean, with low body fat and muscle mass. They have narrow shoulders and hips. Ectomorphs have a faster metabolism, making it tougher for them to gain weight (fat and muscle).

They should follow a calorie-surplus diet high in protein, carbs, and healthy fats. Strength training is more beneficial for them to build a good physique.

2. Endomorph

Endomorphs have more stored fat and high muscle mass. They have narrow shoulders and a soft body with more fat in the hips, thighs, and lower abdomen.

Endomorphs are generally heavy, but not necessarily overweight or obese. They have a slower metabolism, easily gain weight, and find it harder to lose.

Endomorphs should regularly perform both cardiovascular workouts and weight training, with more emphasis on cardio workouts like running, skipping, swimming, etc.

Diet should contain more protein, fewer carbs, and lots of green vegetables and fruits. They should avoid calorie-rich foods like cakes, pastries, and cookies.

3. Mesomorph

Mesomorphs are considered the genetically blessed body types; they are athletic and muscular.

Mesomorphs are neither underweight nor overweight; they have broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and less body fat.

They can attain a good physique with less effort than ectomorphs and endomorphs. To avoid weight gain, mesomorphs should perform moderate cardio workouts, like jogging and light resistance training.

Mesomorphs should consume a balanced diet containing lean protein, complex carbohydrates, and vegetables and fruits.
